I'm Incapable of Having Children But My Girlfriend is Pregnant and Wants to Keep the Child. I don't know what to do.

    2023-05-01

My partner (23f) and I (24m) started our relationship less than a year ago after meeting on a dating app. We were both upfront about not wanting children and have discussed it further since. We are not against children, but we prefer to live life to the fullest without them. In fact, I had a vasectomy when I was 22 because I knew it was what I wanted.

Now, my partner is pregnant and she swears she didn't cheat on me. However, she blacked out at a party during the time of conception, and a friend called me to pick her up. Although she was conscious, she had no recollection of the night, and she wouldn't have been able to give consent if she had been that intoxicated.

Now, she wants to keep the baby, and I'm not sure what to do. While I respect her decision and am happy for her, I'm not sure if I'm ready to be a father to a child that isn't mine and that I never wanted. I'm struggling to reconcile the plans I had for my life with this unexpected situation.

She talks about the future, calling the baby "our child" and looking at nurseries and names. She's excited, but I can't seem to share her enthusiasm. I love her, and I want to support her, but I don't know if I can be the father she needs or if I'm even fit to be a parent.

I don't want to abandon her or the child, but I don't want a kid. It's a difficult situation, and I'm not sure what to do.
