Country music stars, rock bands to play in the region. Here’s where and when

The Stanislaus County Fair gears up with a list of high-profile music artists that you can hear for free with admission. A clean comedy show will pull into the State Theatre. These are just two of the entertainment options planned July 6-12 in the Modesto region.

Stanislaus County Fair

A slate of entertainment, arena events, carnival rides, food, livestock and more is under way at the Stanislaus County Fair.

High-profile entertainment at the free stage coming up features Fuel, July 6; Jesus Ojeda, July 7; The Commodores, July 8; Lonestar, July 9; 38 Special, July 10; Scotty McCreery, July 11; and Great White, July 12. All concerts start at 8:30 p.m.

Comedy at the State

Chepa’s Kid Comedy Presents “Kingdom Laughter,” an all-ages show, at the State Theatre. Glory Magaña will host the clean comedy event that also features Veronica Mendoza Arent and headliner Dennis Gaxiola.

Fireworks finale

A weeklong celebration of American independence in the region ends with the Fireworks-on-the-Water celebration at Lake Don Pedro. Parking is limited, so spectators should arrive early for the show.

MoBand

MoBand’s “Celebrate!” concert will feature musical selections from the season while also celebrating longtime conductor George Gardner, who is retiring. MoBand concerts attract thousands each summer to Mancini Bowl, where people traditionally hold their spots on the lawn surrounding the stage by putting down blankets early in the day. Many take along picnic dinners to enjoy later during the shows. There also is some bench seating.

Prospect Theater

“The Lifespan of a Fact” is the next play for Prospect Theater Project. In the comedic play, “Jim Fingal is a fresh-out-of-Harvard fact checker for a prominent but sinking New York magazine. John D’Agata is a talented writer with a transcendent essay about the suicide of a teenage boy — an essay that could save the magazine from collapse,” according to the theater’s website.
