A global Microsoft outage on Friday affected industries worldwide, including airlines, hospitals, banks and businesses which are slowly working towards recovery.

Computer systems across Modesto were shutdown including those at the Modesto Police Department and Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

The outage was caused by a software update issued by CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm used by industries around the world. The update caused machines using the Microsoft Windows operating system to crash, The New York Times reported.

Local businesses were also affected by the outage, mostly due to mobile ordering apps experiencing disruptions.

    Modesto banks experience ‘technical difficulties’

Banks globally were impacted by Friday’s outage and have been “knocked offline,” according to ABC News .

Downdetector , powered by user reports and indicators around the web, reports major banks impacted by the crash.

Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo and U.S Bank are experiencing issues due to the outage.

Bank phone lines in Modesto are full and customers may have issues contacting a representative. Chase Bank’s automated message reports higher wait times due to technical difficulties.

    Mobile ordering apps are down

Service apps such as DoorDash and Uber have experienced outages on Friday leaving users unable to place orders or book rides.

Doordash is experiencing similar difficulties. Currently users can only use their “schedule” feature to place orders for tomorrow.

Uber’s three main apps, Uber, Uber Eats and Postmates, are all experiencing technical difficulties. Users are met with error signs when trying to use the apps.

The mobile order feature on the Starbucks app is currently unavailable. Customers must order in-person at the counter or in the drive-thru.
