ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Horseheads grad Mike Limoncelli keeps getting stronger on the mound.

Limoncelli earned a victory and made a second appearance in relief for Class A Modesto in the minor leagues this past week. Modesto is the Class A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners and prepares the future stars of the game in the farm system.

Limoncelli won his second game of the season on Sunday, July 14 at the San Bernardino 66ers in a 10-6 win. Mike threw an inning of work while striking out one and allowed just one run in the outing.

Then, in his second relief appearance of the week, Limoncelli threw one inning and had one strikeout Friday night in an 8-4 loss to the Stockton Ports. Mike surrendered one hit and walked two batters in the game.

The 24-year-old Limoncelli has racked up a solid season thus far for Modesto. Limoncelli is (2-1) with a 4.84 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings of work. Limoncelli was drafted by the Mariners in the 2019 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft in the sixth round at 186th overall out of Horseheads High School. Modesto plays Stockton tonight at 9:05 PM EST.
