An email sent to Rep. John Duarte, R-Modesto, earlier this month contained a death threat to him and his family, according to the congressman’s office.

The threat — a copy of which was provided to The Bee — stated that a bomb was placed at the Duarte family ranch, the address of which was listed in the email.

“You are an anti-American traitor, you voted against the constitution and your constituents interests, by supporting (U.S. Attorney General Merrick) Garland you are just another swamp monster.”

Duarte was among four Republicans who voted with Democrats on July 11 against a measure to hold Garland in contempt, according to ABC News .

Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s resolution to hold the attorney general in inherent contempt for refusing to turn over audio tapes of special counsel Robert Hur’s interview with President Joe Biden was rejected in a 204-to-210 vote. A number of Republicans were absent from the vote.

The email, sent July 11, threatened to kill Duarte and his family members, who were each listed by name. Duarte told KXTV-10 that he was angry when the email came in and immediately notified the U.S. Capitol Police of the threat.

“We started going to security protocols and checking and checking the property that (threat) was made against,” Duarte told KXTV-10, adding that no one in his family was in danger.

The letter’s author was listed as a person going by the name of Rebecca Kunster, who used a Russian email service, mail.ru, to send the message.

Duarte’s office sent a newsletter stating he wanted constituents to know about the threat following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13 in western Pennsylvania, according to the Turlock Journal.

Public appearances will continue, he told KXTV-10, with the security detail that typically accompanies him.
