PoetryView – J Street Beats
Good things are happening in downtown. Blocks are coming to life, new restaurants are opening and the music is ringing in the air. This holiday season, it is even going to be more special with the lights and snow of Rockin’ Holiday and Modesto On Ice. One more reason to explore is the magical corner of 13th and J.
Shop Small Spend Local

It means that there is a significant number of people living in and around Modesto. Statistics show that approximately 68% of the money spent locally is reinvested in the community. This...

Positive Role Model at 51 in Fitness
Last month’s FitView was a reminder that we all can look and feel our best at any age. I’m saying, 51 is the new 21 and I’m not alone. One man I know shows this example so well. His name is Pedro Teves. I met Pedro Teves many years back and we instantly became friends. We both share the same passion for a healthy lifestyle. Outside of our friendship, there’s no doubt that he’s an inspiration not only to myself but also to his students. Pedro is not only a High School History teacher but also a devoted husband to his lovely wife Monika, a great father of three young children, and a hard worker in all that he does. I’m just amazed and motivated by the man. He is all that above and yet he still finds the time to exercise and live the healthiest life possible with all the hustle and bustle it can bring. I’d say please enjoy my interview with the hope that he will give you the motivation to be the best you can be at any age. My friend, Pedro, is a positive role model for us all.
Cluedupp Games: Beauty and the Beast
Team #BrewView joined hundreds of players Saturday morning to play a virtual game much like Pokemon Go and Ingress, in the streets of Downtown Modesto. Starting at the Gallo Center for the Arts, going as far as 5 points and back, players got a glimpse of everything DoMo has to offer. The Modesto Museum, McHenry Mansion, art and statues, and great restaurants, as many teams tried downtown restaurants for the first time. What is better than solving a mystery with your friends and learning about our great city?

Gratefully November
As the spooky season simmers down, November ushers in the season of gratitude. More often in this world showing kindness & having gratitude is so important. Ms. M loves to gear up for the holidays this time of year and is grateful to be able to spend time with family and shop & support locals. So as you get ready to roast your turkey and carve into some Thanksgiving gratitude here are a few ways to budget for fun while you save.
All Ages Pages
I hope you all had a great October. November is the month of giving thanks, so I would like to share things I am thankful for here in Modesto! Modesto offers plenty of reasons to be thankful as we enter the season of gratitude. I am grateful for the amazing weather we have year-round, especially in the fall. November is the perfect time to explore some of the beautiful parks in Modesto, such as Dry Creek, which is a perfect location for senior photos. Get some exercise in the crisp air on the Virginia Trail, a great trail to walk your dog. Graceada Park is a cute location for a picnic. There are many more parks in Modesto that offer picturesque walking trails. Whether you’re going on a photoshoot, picnic, or walk, Modesto always provides the ideal backdrop.
ZenView – Grateful
Once again it’s the month of Thanksgiving. For many people in this country there will be the traditional food feast with all the fixings to go with it. Families and friends come together to celebrate the love for life and its bounty. In these tumultuous and uncertain times a tradition like Thanksgiving is a welcome pause from the busyness of our daily lives. We have some time to relax, enjoy and remember what truly matters. Life has been bringing more challenges to most everyone and it matters that we get along with each other, appreciate others and be the most accepting people that we can be. Even within our families and circle of friends it can be hard to see eye to eye at times, but I think it is when we can accept each others differences that we can be stronger together and more resilient in the long run. It’s easy to take things for granted… but feeling gratitude is what can put a completely different spin on life. Suddenly we feel there’s hope.
InterView – Eric Caine
Local news and journalism is really important. The free and independent press at risk, newsroom budgets have been slashed and our common dialog is cloudy as people seek shelter in their own social media bubbles. Sound ominous? Maybe, but that is one of the reasons that I started ModestoView back in 1997.
FoodView – The Standard Pub
One of Modesto’s most anticipated openings has finally arrived. The Standard Pub is now open, with a new look, larger bar and a nod to the traditions that made it the iconic place that people are excited to experience. Nelson Ramirez has been a big part of Modesto’s restaurant...
TurkeyTrot
Turkey Trot – Thanksgiving Day November 23 – Legion Park. Are you ready for a guilt-free Thanksgiving dinner? This is a family friendly 3.1 mile course on a paved path with some grass and dirt. The 1/2 mile kids run will be on grass, 1/4 mile out and 1/4 mile back. No strollers, headphones, or dogs in the 5K run. The Gobbler Walk is an event for just walkers on the same 5k course where trollers/dogs are welcomed.
IllList – Invitational Poetry Slam is back!
The Ill List – Invitational Poetry Slam is back!. The Ill List can vote now! For 18 years, the Ill List brings Modesto’s creatives together. The Ninja Poet, Sam Pierstorff hosts this amazing night of verbal head to head combat, where the audience and judges score each of the competing poets. These are international stars of poetry and this is hall of fame night. ModestoView & Sierra Pacific Warehouse Group are proud to be the title sponsor again this year. We are super excited to see our annual “commercial” the Ill List presents at the show. This is one of the most fun nights in Modesto all year and it makes you think. The Ill List has just a few solo seats left, so don’t lose your tix and remember to thank all of the sponsors and have a great time.
BigView – Thinking about the Holidays
Did everyone have a fun Halloween? Yes? Great. NOW it is time to start thinking about the Holidays. Our mornings are beautiful right now. The flavors are intense and it’s finally sweater weather. The nights come earlier, and the café evenings are magic. I know I will be thankful for a hard freeze that will wipe out the mosquitos!
2023. Holiday Preview
It’s the season to get into the spirit of the season and it will be here before you know it. Take a look at some of the really cool happenings coming up and things happening in November. SalmonView
Did you know that salmon spawn the first two weeks of November?. What is salmon spawning? It’s when salmon run up the river to their spawning grounds (where they deposit their eggs.) The salmon, which have migrated from the ocean, swim to the upper reaches of rivers where they spawn on gravel beds. After spawning, all Pacific salmon and most Atlantic salmon die, and the salmon life cycle starts over again. Basically the rivers are packed with bright, pink, red salmons and it’s a beautiful sight, so pack up the kids and get going!
NatureView – Pretty Bird City Bird
On October 10, 2023, the Modesto City Council voted unanimously to designate the Yellow-billed Magpie as the official City Bird of Modesto. With the consent of our Board of Directors, I brought the proposal to the Culture Commission in May 2022. The proposal reached the Safety and Communities Community in September 2023, and the motion was recommended to the Modesto City Council. Stanislaus Audubon is looking forward to collaborating with the Culture Commission on this exciting project. This designation presents opportunities to engage the community, by creating a natural history icon, by teaching environmental studies to students, and by enhancing local ecotourism.

GreetingsView
The leaved are fallin’, the air is chillin’ and the turkey is cookin’ and we are getting ready for the fall transformation. Family and friend traditions are so important. Especially now in our family as we have a new grandchild and another on the way. These are treasured moments. I am so excited for Modesto on Ice, the Turkey Trot, the first viewing Christmas Vacation, and the opening weekend of Rockin’ Holiday. The excitement is building.
