Legend of the Cruise – Larry Wing
I was born in Oakdale and grew up in Modesto. My mom said I was going to be a mechanic. I went to Franklin, Burbank and Mark Twain and qualified for the State track meet in relay and high-jump. At 14, bought a 1932 Ford 3-window for $30, in pieces. It took me a year to build and this began my love for ’32 Fords.
Legend of the Cruise – Vito Masellis
Vito Masellis and his parents immigrated to the United States from Italy in February 1956, settling in East Ely, Nevada where his grandparents lived and owned the only grocery store. He began his education at East Ely Elementary, embarking on the journey of learning English. In 1961, they relocated to...
Legends of the Cruise – The Regs
In 1945, the war in Europe was ending. Sports events were picking up in popularity. Jim Francis, one of the football coaches at Modesto High formed an athletic club called the Regs, short for the Regulars. The Fraternities and the Sororities were important social elements in the late ‘50s and...
FoodView – Bob’s Giant Burger
Besides rock ‘n’ roll, nothing goes better with cruising than burgers, fries and shakes. It’s even better when you have a “giant” burger, loaded with your favorite trimmings. What’s even better than that? Getting your giant burger from a classic car guy who really cares about great classic burgers with tradition, along with his classic cars.
ZenView – Mindfulness
When I look at my life, I find that the biggest question is always the same: How can I be a good person leading a meaningful and productive life? Especially when things are difficult and stressful, when I feel overwhelmed. Buddhist philosophy tells us that suffering is a part of life. That we are the ones who create suffering in our minds through greed, hate, ignorance and just plain not knowing any better. Is there any hope for us Humans? How can we live meaningful and good lives in this world? I think it starts with paying attention to myself.

Say Hello to June
Say hello to the halfway mark of the year… June is here! It’s also the beginning of the warmer temperatures and the start of summer! Ms. M is just enjoying being present on a lovely day. Sipping on her Iced Coffee courtesy of Penny University at Modesto’s Certified Farmers Market, she takes in everything. It’s nearly summer, but it feels like it is already here from the crowd and warm day. So, if you are ready to have fun and watch your budget, there is plenty to do in June!
Women, the OG Brewers
18Seventy, where good choices lead me to my two favorite things: beer and pizza. At the height of that mess of a year, (Decade? Eon…) called 2020, the doors to 18Seventy opened to an uncertain future. Bridget Berry and her Mom started a business that gave downtown Modesto a certain sparkle.
Music On My Mind
At the new home I’ve been settling into and helping to terraform, a goodly portion of wall space is given to bookshelves. If Tsunduko (not to be confused with Sudoku) were a competitive sport, I’d be a contender for the national championship. One very special top shelf is packed end to end with albums by my favorite artists I’ve hosted as a music curator: a literal A to Z, over 150 records reflecting the most diverse and eclectic concert series Modesto has ever seen.

GreetingsView – Thank You
I know that you probably get tired of me asking for donations. But there are really important things happening here in our community and when we all work together, it really does make a difference. Thank you to my friends and colleagues that always lend a hand. The ModestoView / Sierra Pacific team was the top team for Walk a Mile this year raising $3000! I hope I did you proud and I did walk my mile in high heels to support the important work that Haven does in our community for the most vulnerable. Please take my calls in the future as we are really pushing hard to build the Graffiti USA Museum. If you drive by, you will be blown away how far we have come and the exterior requirements we had to do before making magic inside the building.
ComedyView – Deaf Puppy Club
MAMA winning comedian Chris Teicheira has now made the jump to comedy club owner. One of the funniest people in our area, Chris has been a vital part of our comedy scene as a stand up and comedian at some of Modesto past festivals like XFest and LuckyFest. When he is not tending to acres and acres of his fields, he has been building his comedy dream that opened in December 2023.
FoodView – El Ranchito – Classic Original
I love traditions. I love our cultures. I love great food and I love it when families keep something good going for so long and is loved and respected by the community. There are many local family-owned Mexican restaurants in our area, each with their own charm. El Ranchito in Riverbank is a place that deserves a special place in our appetites and our dining experiences and it one of the longest running restaurants around.
