STRANDED MOTORISTS: TOMPKINS CANYON – EAST SIDE OF THE HUALAPAI MOUNTAINS
About 7:30am Wednesday (8/7) morning, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the brother of a 52-year-old sister who had called him for help after becoming stranded in a rental car sometime yesterday (8/6) on a two-track trail about 11-miles west of Highway 93 – just north of Wikieup. It was a hybrid minivan that appeared to be having an electrical issue. She had spent the night out in the minivan in the wilderness area with her two adult kids (a 31-year-old male and a 29-year-old female). They had been traveling in the area to take pictures. After not being able to reach anyone for help, they walked away from the vehicle early this morning (8/7) in attempts to gain cell phone service. At about 6:30am, she was able to make contact with her brother. Search and Rescue sent an SMS text message request to her phone that once responded to, provides GPS coordinates to search teams. Search teams located them and transported them back to safety where they met her brother and family. Great job by everyone!
