CHICAGO (CBS) -- Most Chicagoans who want to go to Saugatuck travel by car, but one man left Chicago for southwest Michigan on a jet ski.Frank Giannelli is jet skiing 100 miles across Lake Michigan for "Get Behind The Vest," the effort by the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation to raise money to provide life-saving body armor to police officers.Giannelli zipped off from the Chicago Yacht Club around 7:15 a.m. Thursday, getting a water salute as he moved out of port. This journey has been a year in the making."I actually bought my jet ski about a year ago, and the two ideas came together, and there it was," he said. "I've been riding my bike, hitting the gym. It's a little harder on the legs, the up and down, but that's really the conditioning. CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago police are searching for the gunman who shot a man in a wheelchair in Greater Grand Crossing Wednesday night.Police say just before 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the 7400 block of South Perry Avenue, where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his right hip. The shooter fled the scene in an unknown direction. Dozens of evidence markers and piles of bullets were seen scattered on the street.Fire officials took the victim to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. West Central High School’s Addie Seitz Leads Illinois to a Win in the Senior League Softball Regionals
Following an all-state softball season in the spring, West Central High School senior-to-be Addie Seitz is playing summer softball for an Illinois team that is currently participating in the Little League Senior Softball Central Region Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky. Seitz’s team is currently (2-0) and is tied with a team from Ohio as the only undefeated teams left in the 8-team tournament. She pitched a 4-inning perfect game against Kentucky on Wednesday, winning 16-0. Seitz struck out 7 of the 12 batters she faced. Just as she did during the high school season in the spring, Addie helped herself at the plate, as well, going 2-3 with 5 rbis and blasting a home run. Illinois and Ohio meet today for a chance to play for the regional championship game on Friday.
