Everyone has their favorite type of vacation destination — the beach, the mountains, a lake. But imagine if instead of enjoying it only during your vacation if you could actually call a vacation town home. Well, whether you’re looking to make a big move or buy a vacation home, you may actually be surprised at how affordable it can be. In fact, you can buy a home in a vacation community on this list for less than some people pay for a new car.
Methodology
To determine the most affordable vacation destinations you can move to, Moms Who Think reviewed five-year data on median household value and median household income from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 American Community Survey . Cities, towns, and Census-designated places were ranked based on the ratio of median home value to median household income. Only places with at least 500 residents where at least 40% of housing units are vacant for seasonal or recreational use were considered.
