MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – The Kj’s Market in Moncks Corner is closing its doors by the end of August, its parent company announced Tuesday.

Lowes Foods has decided as part of a growth strategy, they have decided to close its Moncks Corner store along with two other stores in North Carolina.

The Moncks Corner mayor believes business closures are a natural part of the economic cycle, he stated in a social media post.

“In my opinion, KJs did not successfully rebrand themselves to appeal to a broader customer base. To fill the vacant space, we will engage with interested companies,” said Thomas Hamilton Jr., Mayor of Moncks Corner on his social media.

For the first phase of future redevelopment plans, Mayor Hamilton has announced that Aspen Dental and Chipotle will be located at the site of the old Anglers. For phase two, a potential grocery store could be added to the Moncks Corner area.

“The specific grocery store remains uncertain. I believe that either Aldi or Trader Joe’s would flourish in this location,” Mayor Hamilton added.
