Durham police officer helps save child from drowning
DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A Durham police officer is being recognized after helping save a child’s life earlier this summer. Officer M. Bruinton says he was on his way to another call on July 5 when he was sent to a drowning call. When he arrived, the 2-year-old child had already been pulled from the water, but was unresponsive and had no pulse. That’s when he jumped into action and performed life-saving first aid to the child.

Man dead, woman shot overnight on Avondale Drive in Durham, police say
DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A man is dead and another person was shot on Avondale Drive in Durham early Sunday morning, police said. According to the Durham Police Department, an officer working off duty at a business on the 2200 block of Avondale Drive heard gunshots at around 4:19 a.m. The officer then responded to the parking lot of a nearby business and found a man and woman who had been shot, police said.

Durham County Board of Elections relocates to new office at Shoppes of Hope Valley
Durham County Board of Elections is relocating to a newly renovated space.The Board of Elections will partially open its new office at Shoppes of Hope Valley on Tuesday, September 3 at 5 p.m. The 54,00 square feet space at 3825 S. Roxboro Street in Suite 101 will consolidate all operations under one roof.The Board said this is the first phase of the planned move into the facility. Phase two is expected to begin in mid-October."We are incredibly excited about this move and thankful to our County Board of Commissioners and County Manager for making this critical investment in election security," Director Derek Bowens said.
