City of Marshfield to Start Asphalt Overlay Project on S. Maple Avenue Starting Tuesday
The City of Marshfield will start the asphalt overlay project on S. Maple Ave. from 16th to 17th Street on Tuesday, September 3. The work will be done in conjunction with Marshfield Utilities and will consist of installing a new sanitary sewer main, a new water main, new water services, and sewer laterals. Once all the underground work is completed, the Street Division will prep the existing pavement for a new asphalt overlay.
WAPS: Decision on school buildings this year
Some Winona Area Public Schools (WAPS) Board members at their meeting last week expressed openness to further considering whether to reconfigure neighborhood elementary schools. At that meeting, district staff brought forward five options for consideration (see sidebar below), including several ideas for reconfiguring how schools are used, or downsizing the number of school buildings. District leaders expect the board to narrow down the options in early September, continue its consideration of how to move forward throughout this fall, and make a final decision by December.
Senior center's scattered sites well-received
Members of the city’s senior center are enjoying a change of scenery and improved parking since a heating, ventilation, and air condition (HVAC) project at the Historic Masonic Temple took over the center’s usual home and city staff moved the Friendship Center’s programming around town. At the same time, some members miss bumping into each other between programs when everything was under one roof. Director of Recreation Services Laura Hoberg said the change has been well received by many members, and that while she expects the HVAC project to be completed by the end of the year, staff will gather feedback from the membership on whether to fully return under one roof and how to run programming.
