First Bird, Additional WNV Mosquito Cases Detected in Will County
The Will County Health Department’s Environmental Health division announced additional batches of mosquitoes and a dead bird have tested positive for West Nile Virus [WNV]. Mosquitoes that tested positive for WNV have been found in Joliet, Homer Glen, Shorewood, and Lockport. A dead bird that tested positive for WNV was found in Crest Hill. Will County residents are reminded to protect themselves from mosquito bites and mosquito-borne diseases. No human cases of West Nile virus have been reported so far this year.

Manteno Woman’s Club Meets, with Gourmet Mushroom Program
The Manteno Woman’s Club met on June 26 for a luncheon meeting at Manteno Sportsman’s Club. Approximately 36 members and guests enjoyed a presentation on Thrive Mushrooms, given by Nihat Kemal Tasyurek, whose family is from Turkey and owns the business. The gourmet mushroom farm, at 1283 S. Seventh Avenue in Kankakee, is popular at the Kankakee Farmers Market, and they also sell their product to Chicago restaurants.
Stage Buzz: Pitchfork Music Fest, Model/Actriz, Halestorm, Limp Bizkit
Pitchfork Music Festival returns to Union Park this weekend for three days of great music, lots of dancing, and good vibes. This year’s lineup features headliners Black Pumas, Jamie xx, and Alanis Morissette. Other acts on the bill include 100 gecs Jai Paul, Carly Rae Jepsen, De La Soul, Bratmobile, Brittany Howard, Grandmaster Flash, Mannequin Pussy, Yaeji, and Rosali, to name a few. Forest Preserve Programs Highlight Joliet History, Braidwood Dunes, Backpacking
Here are the Forest Preserve District of Will County programs for the week of July 22. Online registration is available on the Event Calendar at ReconnectWithNature.org. Joliet Iron Works Tour – two 90-minute sessions at 2 and 5 p.m., Thursday, July 25, Joliet Iron Works Historic Site, Joliet: Explore the stone foundations of Joliet’s once-thriving industrial plant that are more than 100 years old. An interpretive naturalist will share the fascinating stories of the men and machines who worked at the site, which once rivaled Pittsburgh’s steel power. Free, ages 16 or older. Register by July 23.
