Meet some notorious “Rivertown Rebels” during the fourth installment of the Ghosts of McGregor’s Past Guided Historical Walking Tour. Tours will depart from Triangle Park from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, and again from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1. Attendees can arrive any time during those slots, and guides will lead them to five locations in downtown McGregor, where community members portraying colorful historical figures will act out short skits.

Main Street Index Reports Iowa’s Rural Economy Is in a Recession
(Omaha) It’s the R-word for the Midwest rural economy. Recession. University Economist Ernie Goss says the Midwest region’s Rural Main Street Economic Index fell to 40-point-nine for August, showing negative growth. Farmland prices are falling, and agriculture equipment sales and farm exports are down. One bright spot for rural Iowa is that Iowa remains stronger, holding at 51-point-six. Any number over 50 indicates growth.
