Hanson Nature Center Grand Opening, July 13
The Winnebago County Conservation Board and the Friends of Winnebago County Conservation have scheduled a Grand Opening for the new Hanson Nature Center. It will be held Saturday, July 13, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Center, located at 41600 Hwy. 69, Leland. The event will also serve as a retirement party for Winnebago County Conservation Board Director Robert Schwartz, who will be retiring on July 31.

Bedford man charged with murder in Clearfield shooting
(Clearfield) - A Bedford man is in custody on 1st degree murder charges after allegedly shooting a Lenox man Thursday morning. The Iowa DCI says authorities were called to Broadway Street in Clearfield just after 3 a.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon investigation, deputies found 19-year-old Colby Nelson dead from a gunshot wound.
Bailey Lux Visited Her Two Favorite Basketball Stars For Her Make-A-Wish
Bailey Lux, the 14-year-old warrior from Carroll was reunited with her two favorite basketball stars during the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces game last (Tuesday) night. Lux, who has been battling MPNST Sarcoma for the past two years, discovered in May after starting a low dose oral chemo, that the treatment was not effective and the cancer spread very quickly since the last scans. Bailey’s father, Kraig Lux, often referred to as Kj, says she is now entering a new chapter of the fight, chemo free.

KEOTA – The 4th Annual Travis Greiner Memorial Ride began in Keota on June 29. More than 100 tractors left Keota, traveling a 54 mile route visiting Talleyrand, Washington County Fair Grounds and Brenneman Pork before returning to Keota. The annual ride is held in memory of Travis Greiner, a well respected local mechanic and farmer who passed away in 2020.

The #14 (1A) Clarksville softball team earned an 8-4 home win over #8 (1A) North Linn Wednesday in a rematch of last year’s state tournament semifinal game, won by the Lynx. North Linn got on the board with one run in the first, but the Indians answered with four in the bottom of the first, including a 2RBI single by Jeni Johnson. She and Maya Backer each drove in additional runs, and the Indians led 7-1 after four. After North Linn scored another run, Hannah Wangsness drove in a run in the sixth to complete the scoring.
