DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) - An order by the U.S. Coast Guard bans recreational boating on the Mississippi River near Dubuque due to flooding. “When the high water comes up like this, it grabs everything on the islands, trees erode in,” said Brent Groesch, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. “It’s a very dangerous situation to be in.”

The #14 (1A) Clarksville softball team earned an 8-4 home win over #8 (1A) North Linn Wednesday in a rematch of last year’s state tournament semifinal game, won by the Lynx. North Linn got on the board with one run in the first, but the Indians answered with four in the bottom of the first, including a 2RBI single by Jeni Johnson. She and Maya Backer each drove in additional runs, and the Indians led 7-1 after four. After North Linn scored another run, Hannah Wangsness drove in a run in the sixth to complete the scoring. Backer was 2-for-3 to lead the way.

Several hundred fish in Iowa died in January after a faulty pipe released chlorinated water into a local waterway. The Gazette reported that NS Holdings LLC has agreed to pay $7,500 after an unoccupied commercial building it owns polluted McLoud Run in Cedar Rapids with about 450,000 gallons of chlorinated drinking water, killing about 400 fish.

Iowa City woman accused of stealing donations from restaurant
An Iowa City woman was charged with theft after allegedly stealing a donation box from a restaurant. The incident reportedly occurred Monday afternoon at Taco Loco on Boyrum Street. According to police, 41-year-old Kamisha Terry of the Town and Campus Apartments removed a plastic donation container from the counter and concealed it in a bag. She then allegedly left the restaurant with the container.

U.S Coast Guard Closing Mississippi RiverTo Boaters Thru The Holiday Weekend
Due to ongoing major flooding on the Mississippi River and the extremely dangerous conditions that exist , the United States Coast Guard has decided to take the rare steps and CLOSE the river to all recreational boating effective now through at least the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend.
