Forsyth man caught running from deputies
A 42-year-old Forsyth man was charged with three counts of obstruction on July 4 after running on foot from both the Forsyth Police and a Monroe County deputy. Officer Joesph Manning saw the shoplifting suspect, Nicholas Jerome Mays, walking down Sharp Street. Mays had allegedly stolen items from the Valero Gas Station on North Lee Street the day before. After Manning stopped him, Mays denied being at the Valero store, claiming that his cousin had worn the clothing that matched the description.

Monroe County shop foreman Joey Pitman has been fired after being charged with DUI and meth possession in Macon. Pitman had been hired in May 2023 with the condition that he pass regular drug tests.
