FRENCHTOWN TWP (WWJ) The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said a man was arrested for a weapon violation in a suburb of Frenchtown Township.

In a news release; the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said their deputies were dispatched to the Stony Point subdivision, in the area of Eighth Street and Venice Road, on Friday at 10:45 p.m. for reports of shots fired. After they arrived, deputies heard “several additional gunshots.” They also found a man and woman walking in the area.

During contact with them; the deputies discovered the man, 39 of Newport, had a loaded Glock 9 mm handgun hid in his waistband. He didn’t have a license to carry a concealed weapon. Deputies also determined he was intoxicated while having the gun, the sheriff’s office said.

“Additionally, evidence of shots being fired in the area was located,” the police said in the news release. “It was noted that there was a lot of vehicle and foot traffic in the area, due to a fireworks display in a nearby neighborhood.”

Deputies arrested the suspect and lodged him at Monroe County Jail on firearms violations. His identity is not being released.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigation the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call (734) 240-7511.
