Free HIV testing in Monroe County
MONROE — To mark National HIV Testing Day, the Monroe County Health Department will offer free, confidential HIV testing on June 27. Testing will be available by appointment or walk-in at the health department at 2353 South Custer Rd. in Monroe. Services will be offered between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. as well as between 1 and 4 p.m. To make an appointment call 734-240-7840. “Knowing your HIV status is empowering and keeps you and others healthy,” Bridget Huss, personal health director of the Monroe County Health Department, said. “Our department can help you with partner notification, treatment, and connecting you to resources.” In addition to free HIV testing, the Monroe County Health Department offers PrEP and PEP — prevention options for people at high risk of HIV — as well as free condoms and other barriers.

Fermi 2 annual assessment gets blended into June 17 Monroe City Council meeting
MONROE — The federal government’s annual assessment of DTE Energy’s Fermi 2 nuclear plant will be part of the regular June 17 Monroe City Council meeting. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said on its website that it is on the city council’s agenda to discuss the plant’s 2023 safety performance. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and can be viewed online. No major issues were identified in an assessment letter the government regulator sent plant officials on Feb. 28. The NRC usually schedules its own meetings once a year to discuss assessments. In this case, agency officials will make themselves available after the city council meeting to answer questions on a one-on-one basis.
DeWine requests federal help for Guernsey, other counties impacted by April storms

Mike DeWine has requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration from President Joe Biden to support eight counties impacted by severe storms, flooding and tornadoes in early April, despite FEMA's assertion that damage does not reach the threshold for federal assistance, according to a news release from the governor's office.
