MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — Just when you thought you'd heard about every scam, another one pops up. This one's called the land scam, where crooks plot to sell land they don't own. "What's happening is they are corresponding, usually via text or email, not a lot of phone conversations, and having us list a parcel of land when actually they are not the owner of the property," explained Yarrow Wilkins, President of the Pocono Mountains Association of Realtors.

Poconos woman must pay back $3.2M, spend more than 3 years in prison for fraud
A Monroe County woman was sentenced to 41 months in prison Wednesday for stealing $3.2 million from her employer, prosecutors said in a news release. Tammy Simpson, 51, of Tobyhanna Township, made electronic fund transfers from accounts at Triad Metals International to pay her personal credit card bills, court records say. She used company funds to pay for a home spa system, a cruise and airline tickets for her family, tickets to the Pennsylvania Ballet, granite countertops, rare books, child care, clothes and entertainment, according to a sentencing memorandum from Assistant U.S. Attorney MaryTeresa Soltis.
