MONROE, La. ( KTVE/KARD ) — A family restoration center for foster and adoptive families is in the works at the original location of North Monroe Baptist Church.

The church currently has Project 2.5 , which provides resources to foster families such as clothes, shoes, beds, mattresses, and cribs. Due to a lack of space, they will be moving to a brand-new location, which will allow them to continue providing these resources, as well as several new additions.

“We’re hoping to do more wrap-around care, where we’re not just taking care of foster families but also the parents of the kids who have been removed from the home. We’ll have parenting classes in those where we’ll pair each mom and dad with a mentor, husband and wife, that can kind of walk through the process with them and be a source of encouragement,” says Wendy Driedger.

Driedger is the local missions and hospitality coordinator at North Monroe Baptist Church. She says that these classes will also prepare families for unification when it occurs.

The idea for the center came from Mr. Anthony Bartley, whose family has fostered multiple children and knows how difficult it may be to say “yes” to taking in another child. The restoration center’s mission is to make this process easier, and to serve as a reminder that no one is ever alone.

“It’s also to help moms and dads who are struggling in these struggling families. Sometimes they just need a voice of encouragement to let them know that they’re not alone and that there are people out there who want to help, and they want to love on them and help restore families,” Driedger says.

Driedger tells us that she hopes to see the facility’s doors open in the fall of this year.
