MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — School supply prices have spiked by 24% in the past two years. Monroe residents pockets are paying the hefty price as a result.

To jack the prices up on school supplies when you want children to finish school and have a way to make it in this world it’s becoming ridiculous.

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the inflation rate has spiked to its highest level in 40 years. This makes the average school supply checklist about $890, college student Morgan Lucas says that this is a huge increase since her freshman year of college.

School supplies have gone up definitely since I’ve started college, I was in the store the other day and from my personal experience just looking at the notebooks and pencils and pens and highlighters which are some things that I need it ranges from $12 to $20 which can be really in-affordable for a lot of people and I know for my personal self.
