ULM archives and special collections near full capacity, give a snapshot of university’s history

MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — The University of Louisiana Monroe has a hidden gem on the 5th floor of the library.

Special collections and archives carries old yearbooks, photographs, and several publications from the university.

It’s like a campus museum. I have a lot of researchers come here. And since our stuff is online now, I get more research requests from all over the country.

“The Pow Wow” is the original student-run newspaper at ULM, first published in December of 1931. Students’ fondest memories were captured on each page, and the first 50 years of it can now be found online.

In addition to “The Pow Wow,” the Andrew Augustus Gunby photo and letters home collection is also digitized.

Pilcher says that her favorite collection is all of the photographs, particularly one that captures an aerial view of the campus.

At this time, only small donations can be accepted, as special collections and archives is growing larger each day.
