MONROE Jefferson Middle School art teacher Tricia Shanea Martinez is known for her vividly hued art and modern twists. Next week, she’ll show how she infuses nature into art, with twists, like color.

"Many of my pieces are very floral in detail. I many times will use a modern color palette to finish off these pieces," Martinez said.

The Monroe artist will demonstrate at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties , 216 N. Monroe St. The program is hosted by the Monroe Art League and is free. Another Jefferson art teacher, Debbie Conner, presented for the Monroe Art League in April.

“I work primarily in the mediums of watercolor, ceramics, chalk pastels, ink, acrylic and found objects," she said.

Often, she combines the mediums, like she did in her favorite project.

“My favorite piece would have to be the drawing of my daughter that I did in chalk pastel and charcoal. It is framed in a vintage window. I have an affinity for including found/vintage objects as a part of many of my works,” she said.

Martinez also likes the stories behind the art.

"I have always enjoyed the narrative behind any piece of artwork I create. It allows the viewer to understand the creative process of the artist," she said. Her future includes more art.

“We have plans to complete some works together and collaborate with found artisan wood and ceramics,” she said. "I will also continue to sell my artwork and take on commissions. I sell my work online through Etsy, MakerPlace by Michaels and Facebook Marketplace. I have some pieces locally in Green Witch Gardens' flower show in Monroe. My pop art in oil ink is probably my best seller.”
