LINCOLN — The state is moving closer to filling a judicial vacancy in Central Nebraska. Gov. Jim Pillen’s office announced Wednesday that the Judicial Nominating Commission forwarded two nominees to the governor for consideration: Melodie Bellamy on Kearney and Tim Hoeft of Holdrege. The nominees are vying to become a district court judge for the 10th Judicial District, which includes Adams, Clay, Franklin, Harlan, Kearney, Nuckolls, Phelps and Webster counties.

Kansas defensive end to visit Nebraska on July 27
A defensive end from Kansas has scheduled a visit with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Hunter Higgins will visit the Lincoln campus on July 27. His visit will come just days after his July 25 visit to the Oklahoma Sooners. The three-star prospect plays for Maize South High School in Wichita, Kansas. National recruiting analyst Tom Lemming had high praise for Higgins last December. He wrote, (Higgins) should be become a national recruit.
