Salt Creek Fire now 84% contained
Updated at 8:30 a.m. on July 17: The fire is 100% lined at 4,102 acres and is 84% contained, ODF said in a news release this morning. Today will be the final day shift for IMT personnel and as of 7:00 a.m. Thursday morning, the team will disengage and return command of the fire to a local Type 3 team.

ASHLAND, Ore. – Ashland’s Goodwill store is expanding to a new and bigger location. The new location will include more parking and more accessibility. In addition to a larger store another Job Connection Center will open. Oregon wildfire spotted near Blue River east of Eugene
A wildfire broke out Tuesday afternoon off state route 126 in the Cascade Range, sending a plume of smoke above the evergreens amid high temperatures and red flag warnings across western Oregon. Smoke was reported just after 1 p.m. north of Blue River Reservoir, about 50 miles east of Eugene.
Homeowner affected by Central Point structure fire speaks out
CENTRAL POINT, Ore.- The residential structure fire burning in Central Point Tuesday afternoon has been contained and mopped up. Jackson County Fire District 3 was alerted to a fast-moving grass fire in the 4200 Block of Grant Road in Central Point at the same time as a microburst thunderstorm. According to Fire Chief Mike Hussey, the fire ignited in the field and then quickly spread to what he believes was a mobile home and greenhouses. He says the fire grew to around 15 acres because of the wind.

EAGLE POINT, Ore — Community members of Butte Crest mobile home park rallied together to save homes and cars after high winds led to tree damage. A resident at the mobile home park, Connie Fuller, said that there “must have been angels” because her home and car were close to being directly hit by a tree. The main trunk missed her car by only six inches.
Fatal Crash on Highway 101 in Curry County
On Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 11:40 p.m., Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 101, near milepost 298, in Curry County. The preliminary investigation indicated a southbound Ford F250, operated by James Franklin Mickelson (36) of Sixes, left the roadway for unknown reasons, traveled approximately 400 feet through a field, and struck a tree. The collision caused the vehicle to become engulfed in flames. The operator of the vehicle (Mickelson) and passengers, Joseph Frances Kurka (20) of Sixes and Dereck Eugene Stroop (35) of Port Orford, were all declared deceased at the scene. The highway was not impacted during the on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash is under investigation. OSP was assisted by the Port Orford Fire Department, Sixes Fire, Coos Forest Patrol, Coos Fire, the Curry County Sheriff's Office, and ODOT.
