The northern lights are coming back for another show tonight, and several states in the continental U.S. are lucky enough to fall into the predicted viewline.

May’s geomagnetic storm brought the dazzling Aurora Borealis to the majority of the country, even to southern states such as Florida and Tennessee, which was a rare and historic treat. That same storm created a few more shows in the northern states throughout the month.

A second geomagnetic storm sent the dancing lights back to the country this month. And the NOAA Space Prediction Center is forecasting another round tonight (June 19).

Several Apps Can Help Zero In On The Northern Lights

While the northern lights aren’t expected to be quite as brilliant as they were in May, much of Canada and Alaska will likely see them illuminating the sky tonight and early tomorrow morning. According to The Geophysical Institute , North Dakota , Montana , Minnesota , and Michigan may fall into the viewline, as well.

To catch the best views, watch the skies from 10 PM to 2 AM. That’s when geomagnetic activity is at its peak. To get an even more exact forecast, download a northern lights app on your smartphone.
