MONTCLAIR, NJ - The Montclair Township website was affected by Global Technology Outage, says Township officials.
Montclair’s chief information officer and interim communications specialist, Tony Fan, confirmed that the town's hosted platform services were impacted by the recent CrowdStrike incident . The disruption has caused significant issues for the Township’s website, leading to an email alert sent to residents on Friday morning.
"We, the Township, are currently experiencing issues with our vendor who is hosting our Township’s website. The vendor’s engineering teams continue investigating and trying to restore services to their products. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to resolve it. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will continue to post updated information accordingly. In the meantime, please contact the Township’s main phone, 973-744-1400, or email us at info@montclairnjusa.org."
The outage is part of a larger global technology disruption affecting numerous businesses and travelers in New Jersey and beyond. Governor Phil Murphy reported that the outage has impacted businesses and banks, with significant flight delays and cancelations.
Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike identified the cause of the outage as a faulty update deployed to computers running Microsoft Windows. The company has assured that a fix was in progress and by 1:35PM, the Township stated that the issue had been remedied.
Later that afternoon, they wrote, "The Montclair Township’s website is restored and fully operational on Friday, 07/19/2024, @ 1:35 PM."
Newark Liberty International Airport had also been affected, with major disruptions reported. Although the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) stated that it was not directly impacted by the global outage, many airlines had experienced significant delays and cancelations that day.
Governor Murphy announced the activation of the state's Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) as of 3 a.m. to address the situation.
"The SEOC has provided guidance to relevant executive branch agencies on how to address the situation. We are also engaging county and local governments, 911 call centers, and utilities to assess the impact and offer our assistance," Murphy stated.
