    HCSO: 85-year-old woman identified in fatal Monte Alto dog attack

    MONTE ALTO, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — Hidalgo County investigators have identified the woman who was killed during a dog attack in Monte Alto.

    Geronima Florez, 85, was killed Friday evening after one of her dogs attacked her, a news release from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office stated.

    BACKGROUND: Dog attack in Monte Alto leaves woman dead

    Investigators say Florez had gone outside to feed the dogs when the attack happened. When deputies arrived at the 22000 block of Jesus Flores Road, they found the woman bleeding from her neck and left side of her head.

    The canine that attacked Florez was a black pitbull mix breed, which was shot and killed by Florez’s brother with a shotgun , according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

    Brownsville police search for theft suspect

    Investigators further determined the black pitbull was the only dog involved in the attack.

    The second dog was recovered by animal control.
