( KRON ) — Search crews were unable to find a missing man in the Russian River on Wednesday, according to Steve Baxman of the Monte Rio Fire Protection District.

Crews responded to the Villa Grande Beach for the report of a possible drowning in the river at about 6:20 p.m. The beach is about a mile south of the census-designated place of Monte Rio.

MRFPD crews deployed a jet ski and three divers to search for the missing person, who witnesses said was a 27-year-old man. Civilian divers and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the search.

Crews also used a boat with sonar technology to scan the river floor, Baxman said, but they had no luck.

Search efforts resumed at daybreak on Thursday morning, and the missing person was still not found.

In April, a teenager drowned in the river after he and a friend were swept into it at Steelhead Beach in Forestville.
