🚨Monterey, California: Emergency Alert System Test Scheduled for Residents of Monterey City and Peninsula

As of 07th December 2023, 08:14, an announcement has been made by Assistant City Manager Nat Rojanasathira stating an upcoming emergency alert system test for residents in Monterey city and the Monterey Peninsula. This initiative is being led by the Monterey County's Department of Emergency Management (MCDEM) in partnership with the City of Monterey.

The test, scheduled for 10:00 a.m., involves a new Alert Monterey County software that the MCDEM is exploring. The testing will be done using Reverse 9-1-1 SMS Text Messages and Phone Calls, particularly in the Casanova Oak Knoll Neighborhood. An additional test will be the Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS) Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system, which is expected to affect an approximately 11-mile radius from the neighborhood and include the whole City of Monterey and several neighboring communities.

Public participation is encouraged in these tests in three ways:

2. Register with an SMS Keyword. By texting “MCTEST” to 65513, residents may receive additional IPAWS WEA Live Test Alerts and Reverse 9-1-1 Test Alerts.

3. Residents already enrolled in the County of Monterey Alert and Warning System and living within a test site location will automatically receive these Test Alerts.
