At a recent California Michelin Guide Awards Ceremony, Carmel’s Aubergine at L’Auberge Carmel (auberginecarmel.com) earned recognition. The renowned restaurant was awarded two Michelin stars. Previously, Aubergine has had one Michelin star for five consecutive years — a remarkable feat. The culinary team includes executive chef Justin Cogley and executive pastry chef Yulanda Santos. A Michelin inspector wrote, “Products of spectacular quality are prepared skillfully and painstakingly presented with an artistic eye, as in a surprising ‘cabbage’ taco filled with shallot jam, Madeira-braised treviso, Kaluga queen caviar and cabbage chips.”

For Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, Wednesday will be the first day of school for its 23 campuses. Monday morning, faculty and staff from across the district came together in the Seaside High School gymnasium to hear about what’s in store for this year. Pacific Grove Unified starts its school year Tuesday, with Carmel Unified also welcoming students back on Wednesday. North Monterey County Unified is set to start on Wednesday, Aug 14.
