University of Montevallo sets date for Preview Day

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo is currently preparing its campus to receive prospective and transfer students to attend its annual Summer Preview Day that is scheduled for later this month.

Set to occur on Friday, July 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., those students will be invited to the university to explore campus life and discover its list of academic opportunities firsthand.

The event is themed around the statement, “You Belong at Montevallo,” and aims to be an interactive, in-person open house event that displays to future students what it is like to attend the university.

“Representatives from the offices of Admissions, Student Aid, Student Life and Housing will be present to offer information and answer any questions prospective students may have,” said Wesley Hallman, director of communications at UM. “Additionally, academic interest sessions will be offered for each major, giving prospective students a chance to meet the institution’s professors.”

Additionally, prospective students will receive a guided tour of the full campus from the Montevallo Mavens—who serve as dedicated campus tour guides for the university and also assist with recruitment events. Along the tour, visitors will receive information on common hang-out areas, residence halls, dining options, college history and more.

Registration for Preview Day is now open and available and will remain open until the day of the event.

The schedule for the tour will be as follows:

• 8:30 a.m. – Check-in and visitation at the Alan and Lindsey Song Center for the Arts
• 9 a.m. – Introductions to admissions, student aid, housing and student Life
• 10 a.m. – Informational sessions for academic interests at individual colleges
• 11 a.m. – Campus tour led by the Montevallo Mavens
• Noon – Tour of departments, student organizations, Freddie’s Books and more

This year’s Preview Day also comes on the heels of the announcement released in March that UM has once again maintained its ongoing tuition cost freeze for the seventh year in a row.

“The university family is proud to keep access to a four-year degree as affordable as we possibly can,” said Dr. John W. Stewart, UM president. “We continue to prioritize reducing costs for high school graduates, community college transfers, adult learners and their families.”
