Montgomery police are still piecing together what happened at a party early Sunday morning which resulted in a mass shooting, injuring 13, 9 of whom were shot.

“I’m not proud to be standing here today talking about another issue of gun violence in our city,” Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed said in a press conference. “This senseless act is something that should not happen. This cannot continue to happen. We will not stand for it,’’ Reed said. “This senseless violence just has to stop.”

Police were called at approximately 1:48 a.m. Sunday to a report of shots fired in the North Pass community near Coliseum Boulevard.

Police reporting finding two victims on scene, a woman and a juvenile boy. The investigation revealed at least 11 more victims were taken to local hospitals by private vehicle.

Of the total 13 victims, police said nine were shot, three were hit by vehicles leaving the scene and one was struck by glass.

Police said it did not appear that any of the injuries were life-threatening. Investigators estimated perhaps more than 1,000 people were originally at the large party.

Although investigators said they are still working to determine how many weapons were present and fired, they recovered more than 350 cases from fired rounds.
