    FOURTH OF JULY

    Montgomery

    • 2 p.m. - Cloverdale-Idlewild Association's Fourth of July Parade: A tradition in Montgomery since 1975. Decorate for patriotism and join he parade, which begins at the corner of Lexington and Plymouth streets. Parade proceeds to Cloverdale Bottom Park, where Charlie Colvin will lead a discussion of the U.S. presidential election of 1824.
    • 5-9 p.m. - Fourth of July on the Riverfront: Celebration with music by "The Voice" champion Asher Havon of Selma, plus Capitol Sounds and the Wesley Hill Band. Water activities, the splash pad will be open, and for the 21-and-up guests they’ll have free beer samples. Enter the park through the walk-in tunnel on Commerce Street and then take a right to the amphitheater. Fireworks will happen from nearby Riverwalk Stadium, immediately after the Montgomery Biscuits game.

    Prattville

    • 10 a.m. Pratt Park - Immediately after the parade, the park will host the Prattville Lions Club BBQ, with live music and vendors.
    • 10:00 a.m. Pratt Pool at Pratt Park - It's time for the cardboard boat races, where registered teams will build cardboard boats on site and attempt to race them across the swimming pool without sinking.
    • 10:30 a.m. Ribbon cutting ceremony for new BBQ pit and pavilion at Pratt Park.
    • 8:30 p.m. - Fireworks show across town at the Homeplace clock tower, 2000 Constitution Ave., Prattville. Park in the surrounding shopping centers for a view of the show..

    CHURCH

    St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church (Montgomery): Their Outreach Ministries Building Dedication and Community Cookout is Saturday, July 6, at 3 p.m. The building is located at 808 East Jefferson Street, Montgomery. Attire is casual and everyone is invited for the fellowship. The Chief Officiant for the dedication will be Bishop Harry L. Seawright, Presiding Prelate of the 9th District AME Church. Parking will be available in their Ripley Street Parking Lot (adjacent to the church) and in their North Jackson Street Parking Lot (behind the auto shop that’s on the corner of Madison Avenue & North Jackson Street).     UPOCOMING EVENTS

    Montgomery Games: Teen gaming retreat and exports tournament

    A day full of free gaming fun is ahead July 10 at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, 220 Hall St. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be free food, gaming career information booths and more. Gaming is reserved for teenagers.

    Jazz Jams at MMFA

    Jazz Jams are back at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays now through August. Upcoming ones are July 11, July 25, August 8, and August 22. It s a free concert event for ages 21 and up that celebrates Montgomery's creative culture. Local jazz musicians, cash bar and hors d’oeuvres from Verde. MMGA is at One Museum Drive, Montgomery in Blount Cultural Park.

    Grocery Giveaway & Community Resource Fair

    The city of Montgomery is holding a Grocery Giveaway on July 13, 9 a.m. to noon at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl, 220 Hall Street. It's being held in collaboration with multiple churches and organizations to meet the needs of families in the community. Along with groceries, there will be free hair cuts, kids activities, free shoes, and health resources.

    • Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat: July 11 – August 11. One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a humorous retelling of the Biblical story of Joseph, his 11 brothers, his father Jacob, and the coat of many colors.     MONTGOMERY WHITEWATER

    The following events are currently scheduled to take place in 2024 at Montgomery Whitewater, a 120-acre state-of-the-art recirculating whitewater park and outdoor adventure center located off I-65 in Montgomery:

    • Trivia Night at Eddy’s – Thursday evenings from 7 - 9 p.m.: This weekly warm-up to the weekend features themed trivia on the patio at Eddy’s with drink specials for everyone and prizes for the winning team.
    • Fall Sunday Brunch Series – Sundays from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. beginning September 1: Complete with live music, great food and wild whitewater action for entertainment, this brunch series at Eddy’s makes Sunday even more of a fun day at the park.
    • Golden Hour Festival – Sunday, September 1: Wave goodbye to summer with live music, a kayak cross competition, brunch at Eddy’s, whitewater thrills and family-friendly activities.
    • Labor Day 5K and Lil Tri – Monday, September 2: Kids ages 6-14, will run, bike and paddle duckies on the flat-water pond to compete for the Montgomery Whitewater Lil Tri Champion title. Bikes are bring-your-own and boats are provided. Participants also receive a T-shirt to tie-dye in the Kid’s Lot following the race where they can enjoy other kids’ activities and music.
    • The Get Down Concert Series –Sundays, September 7 - October 26 at 4 p.m.: Nationally touring and emerging artists, many with roots in the region, will take the main stage at the park on Sunday afternoons in the fall, providing the perfect soundtrack to rafting and outdoor fun or a sunset happy hour. A complete schedule will be available on the Montgomery Whitewater Park website.
    • Build Your Own Boat Festival –Sunday, October 6: Crafty and adventurous souls can participate in this build-your-own-boat competition. Not only will the winner have to cross the finish line first, but they will also have to navigate (and survive) the whitewater competition channel. The fun will be rounded out by brunch at Eddy’s and a Golden Hour concert event in the afternoon.

    CAPRI THEATRE

    Get tickets at capritheatre.org or call 334-262-4858. The Capri is at 1045 E. Fairview Ave, Montgomery. It’s the longest continually operated movie theatre in Alabama. Become a member of the Capri Community Film Society and receive ticket discounts, plus admission benefits at art house theaters across the country. Member tickets are $10, and non-member tickets are $12. Ticket books will be $90 for a pack of 10.

    The Red Door Theatre is located 35 miles east of Montgomery. Many of our patrons are from the Montgomery area. Entering its 21st year, the Theatre is the second oldest community theatre (second only to Wetumpka Depot Players) in the River Region. "White Lightning," our April production, was written by Alabamian Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder, and was originally commissioned and produced at ASF in 2016.
