May the ‘4-H’ be with you
Montgomery County 4-H is part of the West Central Camp Association, which is comprised of 22 counties in Indiana that conduct 4-H Camp at Shakamak State Park. Located in Jasonville, Indiana, Shakamak State Park has been home to 4-H Camp since August 1931. There were 400 boys and girls from five surrounding counties that made up the first camp group to use the new Group Camp facilities at the park. 93 years later, this partnership remains today as the Group Camp is still used to host 4-H Camp.
INDOT offers update on U.S. 231 construction
Summer-time construction is in full swing in Montgomery County. Crews are painting side streets, fixing potholes, and tackling major projects. One major project on U.S. 231, through the heart of Crawfordsville, cannot be overlooked. Bright orange traffic signs, cones, and barrels signal road work ahead for the thousands of motorists who travel along the route.
Little Giants host 10th annual youth camp
Wabash College Men’s basketball continues to give back the Crawfordsville and Montgomery county community. This week coach Kyle Brumett, his staff, and current and even former players like legend Tyler Watson, have been putting on their annual youth camp. The 10th annual camp comprises of 90+ students who go through a variety of shooting, passing, and handle drills to improve their basketball skills.
Shirk Visits Rotary
Heather Shirk, right, is the executive director of the Montgomery County Visitors and Convention Bureau. She spoke to the Crawfordsville Rotary Club on June 5. She spoke about the many activities happening this summer and fall. Crawfordsville is lucky to have two national landmarks — the Lew Wallace Study and the Rotary Jail Museum. In August, racers and fans will prepare for the Ironman National and in October, Luke Menard will headline the Oktoberfest. Also pictured is Tyler Nichols.
D-Patrick Crawfordsville donates to Kids Closet
D-Patrick Crawfordsville presented a check for $500 to the Montgomery County Kids Closet on Monday. The donation goes to support the efforts of the Montgomery County Kids Coset. Sommer Speaks at Rotary
Stacy Sommer, left, is the executive director of the Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. She spoke to the Crawfordsville Rotary Club at their noon meeting. The mission of the Chamber is to advance a vibrant business community. There are 390 members of the Chamber. Some of the activities the Chamber provides for the community are a ribbon cutting ceremonies for new businesses, networking events and both state and local legislative events.
