Wellness Wednesday: Attempted assassination impacts

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Many people are still processing the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.

This could be triggering and traumatic for some people who saw the attack.

Life and mental health coach Cheryl Bridges told DC News Now there is often an immediate emotional effect from witnessing something like that on live TV.

She said someone might experience shock, disbelief, and fear. Bridges added that having productive conversations about what happened could help during this heated political climate.

“There is that heightened polarization that happens when events like this occur,” bridges said.

She added “I can’t express enough the importance of healthy dialogue, which involves being able to have conversations with people you can express your feelings — that you can be open about what you’re feeling — but talk about it in a respectful way being able to embrace different perspectives whether you agree with them or not.”

Bridges said think of the word unity when exercising those healthy conversations.

She wants people to take time to understand and acknowledge their feelings before engaging in discussions.

She also said let children express themselves freely but be mindful of the information they consume.
