Police: Officers Stop Illegal Car Meet-Up in Burtonsville
Police said officers successfully stopped an illegal car meet-up involving exhibition driving Saturday in Burtonsville. Officers responded to the Sandy Spring Road area where they found a large group of vehicles engaging in unsafe driving, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD). Police quickly increased their presence and did targeted traffic enforcement which caused the group to leave the county.

Montgomery County police to hold drone program meeting with Bethesda-Chevy Chase community
BETHESDA, Md. - Bethesda-Chevy Chase is next on the list of community town halls to discuss the Montgomery County Police Department’s newer drone program. Swindlers Are Targeting Elderly Populations in Maryland With Gold Bar Scams: Report
Concern continues to rise as senior citizens are being targeted by scammers. Most recently, a 19-year-old man from Brooklyn is facing theft charges in connection with a “government-imposter related gold bar scam.” He allegedly conned an 82-year-old woman in Silver Spring, Maryland, out of more than $900,000. Officials are urging elderly people to practice extreme caution to protect themselves.
New owners for Mod Pizza
Several weeks after the closing of the last Mod Pizza in Montgomery County, the struggling chain has been sold. Mod Pizza is now a division of Elite Restaurant Group, a California firm that already owned a half-dozen other pizza chains. Mod had been teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, closing several dozen locations (including Kentlands) in the months before it went dark at Rockville’s Montrose Crossing. No word yet on what will replace it at this location.

Teen Heading To Prison For Role In Montgomery County Murder Of Rival Gang Member
Germantown resident Dayton Miller was sentenced to 25 years in prison with all but 15 suspended in connection to the death of 20-year-old Taon Cline in April 2022. Montgomery Co. passes bill to enforce tenant safety regulations after deadly Silver Spring apartment fire
The measure was prompted by the fire at the Arrive Silver Spring apartment complex that took the life of 25-year-old Melanie Diaz last year. “We were working with members of the public and listening to their stories and what they went through during that event, and realized there was so much we could do here at the county (level) to make sure that there was better preparation for emergencies and better information sharing,” said Montgomery County Council Vice President Kate Stewart, who sponsored the legislation.
