Bi-County Transfer Station on Highway Drive to re-open Friday after repairs
CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Bi-County Solid Waste Management Transfer Station at 1230 Highway Drive will reopen to residents Friday morning. Late Sunday evening, the pit blade broke, according to previous reports. Crews tried to keep the pit partially open but had to shut it down Monday in order to make extensive repairs. Those repairs are now complete, and the facility will open in full Friday, according to Montgomery County spokesperson Michelle Newell.

Early voting starts this weekend for Congress, state House, School Board primaries
CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Early voting begins this weekend, July 12, in the Aug. 1 Montgomery County General Election and Tennessee Primary. Three of the local races on the ballot are contested: the Republican Primary to replace retiring state Rep. Curtis Johnson in District 68, and the Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board races in District 2 and District 6. The rest are unopposed. When I was a child, Clarksville was still called “The Queen City of the Cumberland” because it was such an important market for corn, flour, cotton and particularly burley tobacco. Large tobacco warehouses stood on the hillside beside the Cumberland River, navigable to Clarksville 12 months of the year. Conversely, during low water, the largest steamboats could not reach Nashville because the water at Harpeth shoals was often only three feet deep.
