Montgomery County Food Bank is aiming high for its 12th annual Shootout Hunger sporting clays tournament on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Blackwood Sporting Co. located at 11400 FM 2854 Rd, Conroe, TX 77304. Shootout Hunger, presented by Cowboy Kia, raises awareness and funds to help provide food for children, families and seniors facing hunger in Montgomery County. Every dollar raised helps Montgomery County Food Bank provide up to four meals for those in need.
Montgomery County authorities arrest suspect in Spring shooting
SPRING, Texas — Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of John Dennis Holmes III, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. On July 19, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office SWAT and the Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force apprehended 20-year-old Mark Anthony Crooms Jr. in the 400 block of South Bender in Humble, Texas. Crooms has been charged with murder and is being transported to the Montgomery County Jail.
Man arrested, charged in deadly Spring shooting
Montgomery County authorities have arrested a man linked to a deadly shooting in Spring earlier this week. Sheriff's investigators arrested Mark Anthony Crooms Jr., 20, in the 400 block of South Bender in Humble around 1 p.m. Friday. Crooms was sought in the fatal shooting of John Dennis Holmes III on Raypine Drive on Tuesday. Crooms may have known Holmes, according to a release from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office officials said they were searching for a male who was wearing a black hoodie with white writing, blue pants and a ski mask.
Hurricane Beryl recovery fund established

Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo recently joined with United Way of Greater Houston to announce the establishment of the Hurricane Beryl Recovery Fund. This fund aims to provide emergency financial assistance, home repairs, and other resources to low-to-moderate-income families, specifically targeting the most vulnerable residents in Houston, as well as Harris, Waller, Montgomery, and Fort Bend Counties. Those without home insurance will also be eligible for aid.
