U.S. Department of Transportation Investigates Atlanta's Delta Air Lines After 400+ Cancellations Due to Tech Glitch
The skies are less friendly for Delta Air Lines passengers as the Atlanta-based carrier faces an investigation by U.S. regulators. Delta has been hit hard by a technology malfunction, resulting in over 400 flight cancellations by Tuesday morning, according to WABE News. The disruption, linked to a flawed software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, has affected airlines globally, but Delta's setbacks have been especially pronounced, with more than 7,000 flights canceled since the issue began.

1 Lafayette Officer Dead, 3 Injured in Hostage Situation in Jeanerette, Louisiana – Suspect Identified
JEANERETTE, La. (KPEL News) - The Lafayette Police Department has confirmed one of their own was killed in the line of duty in Jeanerette, Louisiana on Thursday. According to a statement released by LPD Sgt. Matthew Benoit, two of the officers injured were struck by bullets. Two others were struck by bullet fragments. Of the four who were injured, one fell in the line of duty.
Arrests made in the death of Steven Burkett
The Natchitoches Parish Journal has learned that arrests have been made in the death of Steven Burkett. The NPJ has learned that additional arrests are pending. A two-year investigation continues as Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Detectives continue to search for clues or any information in connection with the suspicious disappearance of Steven Burkett of Marthaville back in 2022 according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.

Lake Charles man dies after car hits bike
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A Lake Charles man has died after a car crashed into his motorized bike from behind, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. Spokesperson Kayla Vincent says deputies were dispatched to High Hope Road near Ash Drive north of Sulphur to investigate a vehicle accident around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24.
DA announces dispositions in theft cases
District Attorney Billy Joe Harrington announced the dispositions in three felony theft cases. Matthew Robinson, 20 of Natchitoches, violated the terms of his probation. In 2022, Robinson originally pleaded guilty to theft. The theft related to an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was sentenced to felony probation, with several terms and conditions in which he must adhere. In April 2024, a probation revocation hearing was held due to Robinson accused of violating the terms of his probation. Judge Sylvester ruled Robinson was in violation and ordered him to serve the original sentence of 10 years of incarceration at hard labor.
