DANCE REVIEW: Momix at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival
Moses Pendleton has been making dances and performance pieces for more than 50 years. He was very good at it when he started, coming out of Dartmouth College in 1971 as a co-founder of the dance company Pilobolus (pilobolus is a kind of fungi), and he has gotten better and better at it over the years. This week his company, Momix, is at Jacob’s Pillow, presenting an eclectic survey of the company’s work over the last 20 or more years. If you look closely at the 16 pieces on the program, you can arguably see some of the arc of Pendleton’s artistic vision. And, as his biography states, over the arc of that career, Pendleton’s artistic vision has focused on “illusionistic choreography.”
Jones Library Building Committee Reviews Cuts to Expansion Project
Report on the Meeting of the Jones Library Building Committee July 17,2024. This meeting was held over Zoom and was recorded. It can be viewed here. The meeting was largely devoted to giving the designers an opportunity to elaborate on proposed cost-saving changes to the Jones Expansion Project building design that, it was asserted, would make the project more attractive to bidders. The Jones Library Trustees had previously approved dramatic changes in the design that were projected to save as much as $2.1 million. Several of those cuts, however, have since been restored or have been proposed to be restored.

A winning $1 million lottery ticket was sold at a gas station in Massachusetts and the player came forward on Thursday to claim their prize. The $1 million prize was from the lottery’s “Bonus 100X” scratch ticket game, which costs $10 per ticket to play and was released on June 4. There are still three $4 million grand prizes and five $1 million prizes remaining to be claimed in the game as of July 26.
