Filiaggi was well known in Kanawha and Fayette counties.

He dedicated his life to helping others and trained countless first responders over his 50-year career.

The Kanawha County Commission says Filiaggi was a loved and respected individual in the community.

“Benny was loved by everyone that knew him. His jovial personality was infectious. Anyone who spoke to him left their conversation with a smile. Benny was reliable, strong and kind. His passion for the job was apparent,” the Kanawha County Commission said in a statement.

Filiaggi was with the Montgomery Fire Department for decades before becoming Deputy Fire Chief in 2012 and then promoted to Fire Chief in 2020.
