FAMU Establishes Center for African and African American Studies
Professor Darius J. Young has been named director of the new center, which is being funded by two large foundations. Florida A&M University (FAMU) has received funding from two major philanthropic organizations to establish a Center for African and African American Studies. The Henry Luce Foundation and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation granted $550,000 in total funding to support the center’s mission to promote research, scholarship, and community engagement focused on the rich histories, cultures, experiences, and contributions of the African Diaspora to the world.

Dr. Timothy Beard is set to be appointed interim president of FAMU by the Board of Trustees Tuesday. A committee will also meet to discuss the contract for men's basketball coach Patrick Crarey II.
