MONTICELLO — To celebrate the end of school and the start of summer, Monticello invited children of all ages to its first-ever Bubble & Foam Party on Tuesday, June 11, at Pioneer Park.

The party proved to be a massive success, with upwards of a thousand people showing up on a beautiful, rather steamy evening, including hundreds of local families. Kids, in particular, couldn't wait to get their hands on the bubbles and especially the foam.

The free event featured a DJ playing family-friendly pop music, which got folks dancing, along with bubbles, foam and food, including an ice cream truck with a long line snaking along the park's edge.

The trickiest part of the experience was finding parking, with many having to park at Little Mountain Elementary or one of the nearby residential streets.

DJ Nicholas Thomas supplied everything needed, from bubble machines to the much-sought-after foam, and even led a limbo session with about 80 of the youths.

Thomas often organizes similar events in other cities, including Becker, according to city staff.

“I was hoping it would be a nice activity, after school gets out, to celebrate the beginning of summer and reward kids for their school year,” said organizer Sara Cahill of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. “We thought it would be really fun to bring to Monticello.”

Cahill was hoping for a big crowd, but the high turnout exceeded her expectations.
