    Magic fall in section championship

    The Monticello baseball team fought all the way through the elimination bracket to get to the Section 5-3A Championship against Totino-Grace. The game was postponed to Wednesday, June 5 due to weather.

    The Eagles beat the Magic 7-1 and ended Monticello’s season a game shy of another state tournament appearance. TG scored two runs in the first and never looked back. Monticello scored one run on four hits and committed two errors.

    Tim Marcus went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Cale Holthaus and Nick Anderson had the other hits. Brock Holthaus scored the run. Anderson pitched all six innings for Monticello and struck out seven.

    Monticello ended the season 17-9 and said goodbye to nine seniors: Anderson, Wyatt Hagen, Tyson Visness, Mason Drewelow, Caden King, Grant Stahlback, Keegan Ellis, Trevor Dahlke and Colin Lovegren.

    Girls’ lacrosse loses in section semis

    The Monticello girls’ lacrosse team’s postseason run ended with a 10-6 loss to Elk River/Zimmerman on Tuesday, June 4.

    Addison Kiphuth (two goals, two assists) and Lauren Moorhouse (two goals) led the Magic in scoring. Willa Scharmer and Cassandra Johnson had the other goals. Section quarterfinal hero Ali Schaefer had an assist. Bryn Dahlheimer made 12 saves in goal.

    Monticello finished the season 8-7 and graduated seven seniors: Gabby LeBrun, Schaefer, Macey Morgan, Moorhouse, Piper Perron, Natalie Johnson and Dahlheimer.

    Schyma concludes career with state showing

    Senior boys’ tennis player Ryan Schyma ended his career with an appearance at the Class AA Individual State Tennis Tournament. He lost 1-6, 1-6 to Aaron Zoubek (Elk River) in the first round.
