    Arrests, sentencings, fire calls for July 4

    Wright County Sheriff arrests:

    • Perry John Bondhus, 56, of Monticello was arrested June 22 in Monticello on a Wright County warrant for terroristic threats.

    • Joel Lavern Christenson, 37, of Monticello was arrested June 22 in Monticello on a charge of second-degree DWI.

    • Daye Abba Kla-Diibah, 38, of Brooklyn Park was arrested June 22 in Monticello on a charge of fifth-degree controlled substance and Wright County warrants for third-degree controlled substance and fifth-degree controlled substance.

    • Andrew John Haanpaa, 47, of Monticello was arrested June 23 in Monticello on a charge of third-degree DWI.

    • Gustavo Braulio Payan Ponce, 26, of Monticello was arrested June 24 in Monticello on a charge of violation of a domestic abuse no contact order and a Wright County warrant for interfering with emergency phone calls.

    • Keaonta Ayonna Williams, 32, of St Cloud was arrested June 27 in Monticello on a charge of fifth-degree controlled substance and a Wright County warrant for fifth-degree controlled substance.

    • Jordon Timothy Welch, 33, of St Cloud was arrested June 29 in Monticello on a charge of driving after license cancellation.

    Sheriff by the numbers:

    From June 24-July 1, there were 28 property-damage accidents, four personal-injury accidents, 10 hit-and-run accidents, four car-vs-deer accidents, five DWI arrests and 128 miscellaneous traffic violations reported.

    Wright County Attorney’s Office court sentences:

    • Shawn Micheal Wendt, 46, of Big Lake, was sentenced on June 20 to 364 days jail, stayed on two years probation for theft of motor fuel from a retailer.

    • Heather Lee Kuphal, 37, of Monticello, was sentenced on June 24 to 13 days jail and must remain/reinstate on probation on all prior terms and conditions for probation violation for aid and abet theft, take/use/transfer movable property with no consent.

    • Carrie Ann Layton, 35, of Monticello, was sentenced on June 24 to stay of imposition, 66 days jail and must remain/reinstate on probation on all prior terms and conditions for probation violation for fifth-degree drug possession.

    • Kevin Allen Strauss, 53, of Monticello, was sentenced on June 24 to 20 days jail and must remain/reinstate on probation on all prior terms and conditions for probation violation for fifth-degree drug possession or paraphernalia and DWI, operating a motor vehicle under influence of a controlled substance.

    Monticello Fire Department calls for service:

    • Motor vehicle accident on Interstate 94 near mile marker 197 at 10:12 p.m. June 17

    • Motor vehicle accident on Highway 25 and 4th Street West at 3:25 p.m. June 18

    • Lift assist on Vine Lane at 6:54 p.m. June 18

    • Motor vehicle accident on River Street West at 12:10 a.m. June 20

    • Electrical fire on 4th Street East at 3:04 p.m. June 22

    • Motor vehicle accident at County Road 37 and Cahill Avenue NE at 3:05 p.m. June 22

    DNR Conservation Officer’s Report:

    • CO Trent Seamans (Big Lake) patrolled for anglers and ATV operators. Additional time was spent assisting with the Conservation Officer’s Academy. Enforcement action for the week included fishing without a license, possessing protected-slot northern pike, and fishing with an extra line.

    • CO Adam Stennett (Annandale) reports fishing on area lakes is hit or miss. ATV-related complaints of juveniles operating on roadways continue to be fielded. An AIS check station was worked with other officers and watercraft inspectors in the Annandale area. Officers found one trailer with aquatic macrophytes attached and enforcement action was taken. Officers were pleased to see most people hauling water-related equipment were complying with AIS laws to slow the spread of invasive species. Other enforcement for the week included no life jackets on board a boat, fishing without a license, illegal operation of ATVs and operating personal watercraft one hour before sunset.

    • CO Brett Fox (St. Cloud) spent the week patrolling for ATV, angling, and watercraft activity. Fox spent time patrolling area lakes by boat. Violations this past week included fishing without a license, no license in possession, and permitting unlawful youth operation of an ATV.
