    30 YEARS AGO: JULY 7, 1994

    • Nancy Cassano was selected to continue for another term as chairperson of the Monticello School Board.

    • The Bourbon Street Boys jazz band made its third annual appearance in Monticello, playing in the MHS auditorium due to rain after originally setting up at Ellison Park.

    • Local high school students spent a week fixing up the trails at YMCA’s Camp Manitou in Monticello.

    • Riverfest was gearing up for a fun-filled two-day event.

    • AD: Burger King was offering free helicopter rides during Riverfest, with one trip per $5 purchase.

    • At the Monticello Theater: “Baby’s Day Out,” “Little Big League” and “Wyatt Earp.”

    15 YEARS AGO: JULY 9, 2009

    • The Minnesota Court of Appeals upheld the seven-year sentence of Inrange owner/operator Shea Pedersen, who was convicted in July 2008 of multiple counts of controlled substance crimes.

    • The state Department of Education released student test scores from the annual MCA-II tests, showing a 66% proficiency in math and 76.9% in reading district-wide.

    • Tom Emmer officially entered the race for Minnesota governor. He was then serving his third term in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

    • A new law went into effect stating that children under age 8 who are shorter than 4 feet 9 inches must be in a child safety seat or booster seat when traveling in a vehicle.

    • At the Monticello Theater: “The Hangover,” “Night at the Museum,” “UP,” “The Proposal,” “Transformers, “My Sister’s Keeper,” “Ice Age” and “Public Enemies.”
