    30 YEARS AGO: JULY 14, 1994

    • Wayne James Pauly of Monticello was charged with the abduction and false imprisonment of a 12-year-old girl on July 2. Pauly was also charged the same day in connection with a 1992 abduction and rape of a girl.

    • Joy DesMarais was crowned 1994 Miss Monticello.

    • The Monticello-based “Here Comes the Clowns” clown club could be found throughout the city during Riverfest.

    • A record number 1,400 chicken dinners were sold during Riverfest by the Monticello Lions.

    • The Rockin’ Hollywoods performed at the Riverfest street dance.

    • Questions arose about the residency of City Council member Patty Olsen and whether or not she resided in the city limits.

    • A group of Monticello High School students went on a language trip to Spain and Germany.

    • 120 people from Monticello helped pack the Metrodome as extras during the filming of the movie “Little Big League,” which was making its screen debut at the Monticello Theater.

    • AD: Jackpot Junction was offering $5 roundtrip rides from Monticello to the casino.

    15 YEARS AGO: JULY 16, 2009

    • Brett Bigalke was the first-ever grand prize winner in the Riverfest duck race, winning a Honda ATV when his duck number 415 was the first to cross the finish line.

    • Anna Sombrio was crowned Miss Monticello. Sombrio was also the reigning Monticello High School homecoming queen.

    • A tipped tanker closed I-94 for 11 hours on a Sunday afternoon.

    • Anthony Hill, 18, was killed in Big Lake Township when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle on Highway 10.

    • The Twin Bridge project over Interstate 94 was set to kick off on the upcoming Monday morning.

    • Paige Huschka, 11, of Monticello, sang the National Anthem at a Twins game.

    • Mark Klaverkamp took the reins as president of the Monticello Rotary Club.

    • ADS: It was “Star-Spangled Savings” at West Metro Buick-Pontiac-GMC with $19.95 oil changes.

    • On the Monster Screen at the Monticello Theater: “Harry Potter”
